The Mississippi River Basin Soil Sampling Program in Indiana is now open for applications. This program is designed to benefit farm operations by increasing the knowledge and use of soil sampling as a nutrient management practice. The program is available for row crop fields, pastures, and specialty crops located within Indiana’s portion of the Mississippi River Basin.
The Indiana State Department of Agriculture (ISDA) and other partners throughout the state have collaborated with the Gulf Hypoxia Program (GHP) to develop this program at no cost to the farmers. The primary aim of the program is to provide an assessment of the soil’s fertility that can be used for making fertilizer application recommendations, assessing available nutrients over time, increasing farmer profitability, and enhancing environmental protection by reducing the risk of nutrient loss.
Soil sampling is a critical aspect of nutrient management. It provides valuable information about the soil’s fertility and helps farmers make informed decisions about fertilizer application. By participating in this program, you can gain insights into your soil’s health and make more informed decisions about your farming practices.
