Toronto property owners located in low-canopy NIAs can participate in a greening initiative that offers free trees and shrubs to plant on their property. This initiative is aimed at achieving canopy growth and enhancing the green spaces in Toronto. The offer is limited to one free tree and up to three free shrubs per single-dwelling residential property per year, space permitting. For multi-unit or business properties, the offer extends to three free trees and up to five free shrubs per year, again, space permitting.
The initiative operates on a first-come, first-served basis, making it important for interested property owners to act quickly. The incentive runs from August 2023 to June 2024, providing ample time for participants to plan and execute their planting strategies. It’s a wonderful opportunity for Toronto residents to contribute to the city’s greenery while beautifying their own properties.
